ADRAA AGRICULTURE COLLEGE
Course Code: NDAH
Duration: 2 Years (4 Semesters)
The National Diploma in Animal Health (often paired as Animal Health and Production) is a professional, technically-driven program designed to qualify students as certified Animal Health Technicians or veterinary support specialists. The course bridges the gap between veterinary science and farm management, empowering learners with clinical, diagnostic, and preventative skills to control livestock diseases, protect public health, and optimize animal welfare. The program integrates applied science with extensive laboratory experiments, farm clinics, and field attachments. Graduates are well-positioned to advance into a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Veterinary Medicine or Animal Science. The course targets holders of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE), A-level, or its equivalent, as well as holders of a certificate in Agriculture or related fields. Assessment is conducted by the Uganda Vocational and Technical Assessment Board (UVTAB).
The program aims to: • Equip learners with advanced technical knowledge and clinical skills for livestock disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. • Train para-veterinary professionals capable of managing herd health and enforcing biosecurity measures. • Strengthen public health safeguards against zoonotic infections through veterinary practices. • Develop competencies in nutrition, reproduction, and pharmacology to optimize animal welfare. • Prepare learners for progression into higher veterinary and animal science studies.
By the end of the course, graduates will be able to: • Diagnose, treat, and prevent common livestock diseases. • Apply veterinary pharmacology safely and effectively. • Conduct laboratory and field-based investigations into animal health. • Manage livestock nutrition, reproduction, and welfare systems. • Monitor and enforce public health standards in meat inspection and food safety. • Implement biosecurity measures to protect herds and communities. • Advance into higher education or professional veterinary pathways.
