Description

This informal certificate program is conducted at the college and is designed for practicing pig farmers of all academic levels who wish to strengthen their skills in pig production. The training emphasizes a practical, hands on approach to ensure accessibility and relevance for farmers across different backgrounds. Assessment is carried out by the National Assessment body, UVTAB, under the informal program framework. The course is particularly relevant to climate change adaptation strategies for smallholder farmers. By promoting resilient pig farming practices, participants learn how to diversify income sources, reduce vulnerability to climate shocks, and adopt sustainable resource management techniques. This makes pig farming not only a profitable enterprise but also a pathway to climate smart agriculture. Upon successful completion, participants will be equipped to establish and manage their own pig enterprises, thereby enhancing household income, food security, and overall livelihood resilience.

Course Objectives

The primary objective of the Pig Farming (Swine Production) course is to enable participants to acquire scientific, technical, and financial competencies necessary for operating a profitable and sustainable commercial pork enterprise, while aligning with climate change adaptation strategies suitable for smallholder farmers.
